Discover Primary Science Award

Scoil Chaitríona Junior are once again hoping to achieve the Award of Excellence for Science. We have finished this years application and sent it all the way to Dublin in the hope that we will get the award.
  • We sent 4 discovery log books with this years application - one from Ms. McLoughlin's and Ms. Newell's classes, one from Ms. Tierneys class, one from Ms. O'Connor's class and one from Ms. Crotty's class. Well done to all those classes for all their hard work, and for putting all the photos and work into folders!
  • 17 of our classes this year were involved in the Discover Primary Science scheme. We all tried out lots of the experiments from the DPS book.
  • We had lots of science visitors to our school - Elijah's mum to tell us about being a scientist, the Mayor, Niall Ó'Brolcháin to tell us about recycling, Rude Mechanics, Educate Me Rainforests, the mobile farm etc.
  • 3 of our classes hosted open days - Ms. McLoughlin and Mrs. Newell had 2 open days this year, and Ms. Crotty had a wonderful day, in front of cameras for the DPS programme.
  • We did lots of our own science...we set up a school website, we got the Green Flag, we did our own experiments, we looked after worms and caterpillars, grew vegetables, made and flew kites, took part in the Green Wave programme, and much much more!

We should know in a few weeks whether we will receive the award or not. One way or another, we have had a marvellous time taking part. Well done to the 265 children and adults who gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to this programme and to the very supportive principal and teachers without whom none of this would be possible!!!
