Do plants need light to grow?

We want to find out if plants really do need light to grow.
Before we planted our seeds we decided what we should do.
We thought we should try to grow one plant on the window sill where there is lots of light, and one plant in the cófra where it is dark all the time.
We predict that the plant (or plants) on the window sill will grow very well (if we remember to water them!) but the plants in the cófra won't grow at all.
We will check on them regularly to see what happens!
We can't wait to see what happens to all our cress seeds.
After a week:
The seeds on the window sill are green and growing well.
The seeds in the cófra are growing but are very yellow.
After 2 weeks:
At the end of October:

Learning about our bodies

We were learning about the body today.
We have a human torso that we can look at and explore.
We love taking apart the body organs and putting them back together again.
We learned a little about the brain, the skull, the lungs, liver, kidneys, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and heart.
A big Thank You to the Madden family who helped us purchase this fantastic resource for the school!
Also, a huge Thank You to the Madden family who helped us buy our newest student!
He's a big addition to our class!

Harvesting in our garden

Kay came to visit us today.
We went to the school garden with her to harvest our vegetables.
We spotted all sorts of bugs in the garden..lots of caterpillars, woodlice, slugs, snails, worms, centipedes, daddy-long-legs and beetles.
The nasturtiums have really grown.
We spotted lots of peas in their sweet pea pods.
We harvested carrots, huge turnips, radishes, onions and cabbages.
Guess how heavy this enormous cabbage weighs?
Teacher weighed it at home. It was 4.8kg.
Teacher cut up the cabbage and boiled the turnips for us to eat
BUT THEN SHE FORGOT TO BRING THEM TO SCHOOL!
Silly teacher.
We all took home the rest of the vegetables.
Maybe our families will cook them up for us!

Investigating Materials

It was such a lovely day today.
We went outside around the school and to our school garden to investigate materials.
We looked at all sorts of things -  plants, stones, berries, feathers, bugs, flowers, leaves etc.
We examined them all to see which were hard/soft, shiny/dull, bendy, crumbly, rough/smooth etc.
We sat outside to record all our findings into our books.
We love outdoor learning!
