Making rice crispy buns: First class

In school we made rice-crispy buns. We looked at melting - solids and liquids - in science. In literacy we wrote using instructional writing frames. We enjoyed making the buns and we LOVED eating them and licking the spoon and bowls.

Autumn walk - looking at leaves: First class

 An Acorn

We saw the truck sweeping up the leaves. Wet leaves on the road can be dangerous - especially for the postman on his bike!!!

Autumn walks - looking at leaves: First class

We studied the different types of leaves. When we went back to our class we did leaf rubbings.

We found helicopters!!

Our school garden: Frist class

We have moved our school garden to a more sheltered area for the winter months. We looked at the different tools that we will be using for planting and looking after our garden

Celery Science: First class

This experiment demonstrates how water moves though plants and teaches the children what a "control" is in any experiment.

Acid test in Junior Infants

In winter we eat and drink more.  We wanted to test our favourite drinks for acid.  We know that acid is very bad for our teeth and we should wash our teeth after having something that contains acid.  First we needed some PH neutral water.  eacher chopped a red cabbage in half and poured hot water over it, we left it to cool.  That left us with this purple water.

Then we tested a variety of drinks to find out if they contained acid.

We also tested water and milk.

Some children were surprised at the results.  We found 4 of the drinks we tested turned the water pink that means they contain acid and therefore we should brush our teeth after drinking them.  Apple juice, orange juice, ribena and coke all made the water turn pink.

Birds enjoying the seeds: Junior Infants

Early this morning before any children were in school the birds were eating the seeds from the bird feeders we put on the tree yesterday.  Looks like we will have to make some more.

Gardens: Senior Infants

We were sowing vegetables in our gardens last week in class. We were learning to sow them in rows. We put one type of vegetable in each row and we did not mix them. It was good fun. We had lovely stickers of the vegetables.
