Magnets, Room 1, Junior Infants

Today we were discussing magnets. We were investigating what sort of materials the magnets would stick to. We went around the classroom with our magnets to investigate. We discovered the magnets were attracted to metal objects like the white board, the light switch, the filing cabinet, the metal on the chairs and desks. The magnets did not stick to the computer, the floor, the windows, the door or the floor. Take a look at our magnet search in the classroom.

Looking at Horse Chestnut Buds

Friday, March 5th, 2010
We have a small Horse Chestnut tree in our school. We took a look at the brown sticky buds on the tree today, and we had a look at the horseshoe shaped scars on the branches. We are looking forward to seeing the new spring leaves soon.

Science Open Day: Room 4 & Room 5

Thursday, March 4th, 2010
We held our Science Open Day this morning.
We invited our parents and grandparents, teachers from our school and the senior school, our chairman and lots of other classes to come and see all the work we have been doing all year in science. It was a busy morning. Each of us took responsibility for an experiment, and could tell all our visitors about how to do our experiment and how and why it worked. It was a fun but exhausting morning. All About Food

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
We are learning all about food, where it comes from, how it grows and which kinds of food are good for us. Today we tried tasting different kinds of foods - salty, sour and sweet. We tried a sour lemon, salty crisps and sweet jelly worms. We like tasting foods, but we know not to try anything unless we are with an adult we can trust.
