We really enjoyed testing the size of our lungs. Some of us were so enthusiastic that we forgot that we are only supposed to take one breath!

Weathermen (and women)
We have a weather-man or a weather-woman in our class each day.
They record the daily weather on the calendar and they read the thermometer each day.
We will take rainfall readings too as soon as we get our rain gauge nailed to the wall.

Harvesting from our garden
All our fruit and vegetables are 100% organic.
Any fruit or veg we pick in school we also wash, cut up and taste.
We love looking after our garden.
We also planted out our strawberry runners. We are learning lots about being great gardeners, and we are helping to take care of our world around us.
Colour wheels we made ourselves
We made our own colour wheels today. We can spin these using just our fingers and we can spin these using the motor. It is lovely to see the colours change as we spin the wheels. Using the motor gets more spectacular results than spinning with our fingers.

The squirrel
We learned all about the squirrel.
Squirrels are very shy. It hides if it hears strange noises or sees people or large animals. They have bushy tails that help them balance when jumping from branch to branch, it also keeps them warm in winter. In autumn the squirrel gathers nuts and cones to make a food store for winter.
Little Brown Squirrel
A little brown squirrel,
So frisky and happy,
Gathered seeds and nuts
Each gold autumn day.
But when winter came
And the snow lay deep,
The little brown squirrel
Curled up fast asleep.
We have been learning all about autumn. The colours we see in autumn are red, yellow, brown and orange. The leaves are falling off the trees and the weather is getting colder. We talked about the animals who are getting ready for their big winter sleep (hibernation).

Shadows
On a nice sunny day we can make shadows with our bodies and our hands.
This will only work if the sun is behind us. We could make our shadows grow tall and shrink small and we could make scary Gruffalo shapes.
We talked about whether it is the sun that moves during each day or whether it is the earth that moves around the sun. Which do you think is correct? (Answer: The earth moves but the sun doesn't)
