We made kites from paper, paint, skewers, string and fabric tails and bows.It was fine but windy today so we went flying the kites. It was great fun.
Our kites fly best if we fly them against the wind.

I am a 3rd grade teacher in Connecticut. I found your wonderful blog while looking for resources about using kites in education. For the past 2 years my students have made and flown kites in April and May when we learn measurement and fractions.
To incorporate cultural exchange and reading/writing into the unit, I set up a website where classes around the world can share their experiences and cultural traditions around kites. So far there are 10 schools involved from every continent! We have participants from Belize, Brazil, Poland, India, China, Kenya, New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, and South Korea. If you are interested I would like to invite you and your students to join this kite project. It might be a great way to network with other schools (I can post any links you would like) and give the students a wider audience for their work. Also, all the pages on the website will be in English, so they can learn about other countries while reading authentic student writing and looking at kites from around the world.
