We were learning all about colours today. We know the 7 colours of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue indigo and violet. We were wondering what happens when we mix colours.Colour Paddles and Acetates:We used colour paddles and acetates to mix colours. We found out thatRed and yellow make orangeRed and blue make purpleBlue and yellow make greenRed, blue and yellow make brown Racing Colours:We thought that some of the colours in markers might be made up of other colours so we tried a simple experiment to find out. In pairs we got a paper towel, a cup with a small amount of water in it and a clothes peg. We put spots of marker on the paper towels, and we watched as the colours were drawn up with the water, by the tissue. Sure enough we could see yellow in the brown marker, yellow and pink in the orange marker, yellow in the green marker and blue and red in the purple marker.
Colour Wheels:Lastly we tried mixing colours using colour wheels.
We tried spinning these colour wheels using toothpicks, skewers and pencils, but we found that the colours spun best when we used a motor, a battery and two wires. We all got turns at spinning colours. It is so interesting watching colours mix.
